Hokey stick graph

The notorious Hokey Stick Graph was produced in 1998 by Michael Mann by using proxy temperatures. Mann managed to produce a graph that became the icon for climate alarmists. For many years Mann refused to provide Steven McIntyre with data and methods, nomally a basic requirement for a scientific paper. After taking legal action , McIntyre finally got them, and within days he managed to show how Mann had falsified data by leaving out trees he said he had included, and used statistcal methods that would inevitably produce hockey sticks, no matter what data you fed them with. The resulting graph by using correct data and methods is shown below, overlaid the original hockey stickÆ

The correction was backed up by the Wegman report, an independent committee of statistical experts.

Later, Briffa produced a hockey stick where data after 1990 was based on 12 trees, 1 of them changing the curve into a hockey stick. THE WORLDS MOST IMPORTANT TREE!:

In 2009 McIntyre did it again with Briffa’s Hockey Stick. After asking and waiting three years for the data, it took just three days to expose it too as baseless. For nine years Briffa had concealed that he only had 12 trees in the sample from 1990 onwards, and that one freakish tree virtually transformed the graph. When McIntyre graphed another 34 trees from the same region of Russia, there was no Hockey Stick.

The sharp upward swing of the graph was due to one single tree in Yamal. Epic cherry-picking!

The hokey stick graph was an attempt to erase the Medieval Warm Period (MWP) and the Little Ice Age (LIA) from history.

Later sciectific works has shown that the deletion of MWP and LIA from history was unwarrented. Below is shown last 2 millenia temperatures based on non-tree proxies by Craig Loehle:

Craigh Loehle. Both MWP and LIA are clearly visible.
