Temperature corrections, combined records

Yet a rather hidden correction with an effect worth mentioning: If more temperature series are measured for the same station. This typically is the case when the temperature apparatus has been moved. This MIGHT justify an adjustment between the 2 or more temperature sets.

Below is 7006 temperature series for GISS examined for adjustments in connection with combining series:

This shows, that 1940 has been adjusted down with approximately 0,08 degrees Celsius compared to year 2000. So BEFORE even considering the ordinary adjustments we are operating with datasets where 0,08 degrees Celsius of heat trend has been added after 1940.

”This is just 0,08 degrees Celsius … ” ? 0,08 degrees Celsius equals 16% of the entire measured global warming after 1940 (approx. 0,5 degrees Celsius).

This subject has come in focus lately as Russian authorities are criticising CRU for systematically preferring broken temperature records in stead of many FULL datasets without cause to adjust. But apparantly the better records with no reason for adjustments has no interest for CRU.

“The HadCRUT database includes specific stations providing incomplete data and highlighting the global-warming process, rather than stations facilitating uninterrupted observations.”

And finally, an example from Darwin, North Australia, where GHCN has interpreted these 5 otherwise PERFECTLY well matching temperature series, see left:

Right: The original cooling trend of 0,7 C/100 years has been changed to a warming trend of 1,2 C per century. There are no other temperature stations in the area that confirms any such temperature development, so IPCC´s overall illustration (the little graphic below ”NAU”) shows a warming trend due to the adjustment of the 5 matching temperature series shown above.
