Temperature stations, the quality

Anthony Watts has promoted an examination of all American temperature stations. Approximately 80% of the temperature stations does not live up to the official standards. Temperature stations are typically situated too close to concrete, asphalt, buildings, air ventilation channels etc. ALL these polluting effect adds extra heat to the measurements.

It is worth to mention, that NOAA are not themselves helping with this HUGE work to analyse the 1000 US stations. Remember, NOAA, has staff everywhere, they could just in one day check out the problem, but getting things right appears not to be a concern of NOAA.

The global network of temperature stations has been drastically reduced in numbers so that we today have huge “grey” areas for GISS measurements. Not rarely, large areas without cities are not so well represented anymore:

On top, GISS data basis 1976. Bottom: GISS data basis 2008.
